ZHA Fire Committee Meeting 2024 Quarter 1, 2:00 PM 220 Mill Run Road/Conference call

MinutesMembers present: Mark, Wayne, Forrest, John By phone: Suzanne, Erin (30 minutes)

Old Business

• Spare pumper parts update (Mark has some price estimates. The most costly

  items are the regulator and an aluminum box. We may need a new hitch as well.

  Mark's estimate is $500. Wayne may have a box we can use.)

• California Circle mitigation update (the work is mostly complete. Waiting for the

  snow to melt to finish. $10,000 of $12,500 has been approved for payment.)

• Weed plan (Still have been unable to locate a weed contractor. Jenny from

  NRCS has extended our grant opportunity. We have not lost any money. We will keep trying to find someone.)

New Business

• purchase fir tree pouches (Sam will order at $2.50/pouch, 20 pouches /acre, 6

  acres identified =$300. We need to see if we can identify more acres. We can order them in the spring and place them in early May. We may have to keep them in a freezer.)

• evaluate "ZHA grant" projects (1 property chipping, 1 property hauling, 1 property roadside chipping, 1 property defensible space evaluation) (One chipping project and one defensible space evaluation request were received by the deadline to go with the two previously known projects. We approved $2000 for Chris Lundquist, $2000 towards John Oberlie's pile, agreed to chip whatever slash Anna Ciezki can get to the road by late spring, and a defensible space evaluation for Anna Ciezki. We may be able to offer "grants" again later in the year after the completion of other projects.

• eview/evaluate wood recovery lot burn, procedures (The wood recovery lot is expected to open at the end of the month after one more "stirring". The burn went well, but was one of the largest we have done and needs some extra time to cool. We will develop a pre-burn checklist the board can use prior to the next ignition, and look into purchasing three "controlled burn-do not report" road signs.

• committee job description for the board (The board has requested a "what does the committee do" description to assist new committee members. We will develop this document from action items over the year and we will have it ready by July 31. There is a starting point in the ZHA Strategic Plan)

• begin next 10 year mitigation plan? (we are fine for another year before we need

  to begin on our next plan)

• discuss ZHA Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan February 28, 2018

  (the draft document is too involved for our liking and possibly puts liability on the ZHA. We will work on condensing it to a simpler to use reference and put the onus on individual members to comply or not)
